Police investigators said the Chrysler vehicle was traveling eastward on Lincoln Highway when it collided with a Nissan. The impact was strong enough to cause the death of some and injuries in others. Cameras from surrounding surveillance caught footage after the accident, capturing the chaotic scene of what happened following the collision of the vehicles. Authorities are continuing to investigate details of the collision as they piece together how this heartbreaking situation occurred.
As a result of the heavy collision, the driver of the Nissan, who has been identified as Kimberly Taylor, along with a 6-year-old girl passenger, Kimbella Tolliver, both died at local medical facilities. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the death of 26-year-old Kimberly. Lake County Indiana Coroner's Office identified the 6-year-old girl. The tragedy has further been made poignant by the fact that both Kimberly and Kimbella were staying in Calumet City.
Besides the losses, there was another young passenger in the car-a 4-year-old girl-who got injured in the crash. This little girl is presently recuperating in a hospital, where she is being taken care of and attended to with her injuries. Relatives of the victims spoke to reporters and said Kimberly was a mother to the two girls involved in the accident. News of this has caused much sadness within the community as families and friends mourn the death of one and pray for the recovery of the injured child. This tragedy has indeed caused ripples far and wide, as friends and all those who knew them remember the moments of joy and love they brought into other people's lives.
The crash is still under investigation by the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
