Xavier Tate, Jr. is highly wanted by authorities for his horrific murder of Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca. An arrest warrant has already been issued-a seriousness attached to the situation-and efforts to locate him. The Chicago Police Department says a reward of $100,000 is available for anyone who can provide information that brings about the arrest and conviction of Tate Jr. of Aurora. So it is: here is a major financial stake by the community in seeking justice for Officer Huesca.
On April 27, love and respect flowed through the neighborhood of Gage Park, where Officer Huesca resided and was brutally killed. The spot near where he was fatally shot has become a makeshift memorial filled with colorful balloons and fresh flowers as a representation of great sadness and applause for his work. Officer Huesca was tragically killed while still in his police uniform, a reminder of the dangers on the job that can befall an officer.
The carjacking incident that resulted in his death allegedly involved an incident where Tate, Jr. was accused of using a .40-caliber firearm to shoot Officer Huesca. The community is still in an uproar over this senseless act of violence and has brought into question the issues of safety and justice for the men and women who protect and serve. Meanwhile, the continued search for Tate, Jr. is not only a pursuit of justice but one that provides some sense of closure to a grieving community that feels the loss of their fallen officer so deeply.
Tate, Jr. was arrested on March 6 for criminal trespassing in Olympia Fields. Additional court records show this. He was supposed to appear in court Wednesday in Markham to answer to the charge. No word on an exact date of appearance. His no-show does beg the question of what happened and could impact the case against him.
